The Petchey Academy 2 – 1 Woodside High School
(Year 8 fixture)
Henry Enilolobo guaranteed Petchey kept the ‘winning way’ as they defeated Woodside High School in what was a fantastic end to end match resulting in a nervy Petchey win.Woodside arrived with confidence after they’d heard that both Petchey teams, (years 7 & 8) had 100 percent records which they were determined to keep. After a delayed started, due to footwear inspection from facilities manager Alan Gilbert, Petchey, who were without star player Shaquile Coulthirst, kicked the game off and broke down the left flank with William Aborah playing in new boy Kacey Wright who announced his arrival at Petchey with a neat finish in the far corner: 1-0 Petchey. After an electric start from the home team who dominated the play with captain Luke Gubbins (the fridge) bossing the midfield (his presence in the middle of the park being pivotal) as he won almost everything in the air as well as the ground to keep Woodside at bay.
As time ticked by Woodside gained more and more possession and began asking questions of the Petchey defence and, indeed, goalkeeper Jodiese Davis had to pull off several nail biting saves to keep Petchey in the game.
Woodside grew in confidence as half time approached with their number 7 rattling Davis’s crossbar minutes before the interval. After some harsh words from the Petchey manager, the team came out firing on all cylinders and looked to take the game to Woodside, within 6 minutes of the restart, came the goal Petchey was grasping for, a corner drilled in by Kai Cooper was spilled by the Woodside keeper and fell to the feet of the surprised Enilolobo who despatched a assuring strike putting Petchey 2 goals to the good. Woodside quickly regrouped as they mounted a series of attacks on the Petchey goal, only for Davis, who was in sublime form, to keep them out. Adam Broomfield went close for Petchey with a stunning strike but was unable to score as the Woodside keeper was equalled. At the other end, Woodside also came close with their number’s 10 and 6 striking from distance.
In the 65th minute, Woodside got their goal as their sheer resistance finally paid off, a fine strike from 35yards which took a slight deflection to wrong-foot Davis in the Petchey goal and make the score 2-1. With 10 minutes left on the clock, both teams shared possession and created very little in front of goal, the Petchey defence inspired by the presence of Jeremiah Orlando managed to keep their heads together to see out a nervous last 5 minutes and ensure Petchey kept a 100 percent record.
Petchey Academy 14 – 1 Stormont House
The Petchey Academy boys were in inspired form as they destroyed Stormont House School 14 – 1 at The Petchey Academy. It took only 40 seconds from kick off for Petchey to grab the lead as dazzling Adam Bromfield danced his way through the Stormont defence to drill in a left footed shot which found the bottom right corner from an acute angle.
After dominating possession Petchey doubled their lead as Joshua Dachi placed a well struck shot pass the Stormont keeper. Bromfield was quick to double his tally for the season as he latched on to a Jawaad Jaigirdar ball to finish coolly in the Stormont goal. Four minutes later Petchey scored again as Darius Bryan got his goal with a power strike giving the keeper no chance. It was all Petchey at this stage with Stormont looking lethargic and out of sorts. Hoang Li and Jeremiah Orlando were showing good skill while Soner Ozdemir was bright after missing last week’s demolition of Hackney Free through suspension.
Petchey made it 5-0 in the 18th minute as Lance Ledgister headed in from close range following a pinpoint pass from Shaquile Coulthirst. Soon after provider turned goal scorer as Coulthirst claimed 2 in two minutes, the first a shot which took a deflection to bounce past the Stormont goalkeeper and the second a low drive which riffled into the corner. After a miserable time between the sticks, Stormont changed their goalkeeper hoping for magic and better protection of the goal mouth , but instead Petchey rallied on with Bryan once more finishing in to the keeper’s left to ensure Petchey went in at half-time 8 goals to the good.
After the interval Stormont showed some kind of spirit as they nicked a goal which was only deemed a consolation. With the home fans edging the boys on, ice cool Adam Bromfield grabbed his first senior hat-trick with a well placed effort which found the corner 9-1. With 20 minutes left Petchey made three changes and continued to dominate as substitute Tafari Rowe also found the net after an exchange of passes with Ozdemir 10-1.
Petchey continued to press and after an excellent display of passes put together, Dachi notched in his second of the game and Petchey’s 11th as the boy looked to add gloss to the scoreline. With only 11 minutes left on the referee’s watch, Hackney born Rowe grabbed another goal when the ball came in from the right hand side from second half substitute Akinola Kuseju who delivered to Rowe who volleyed the ball in emphatic style to make the score 12-1. Dachi also claimed his hat-trick in the closing minutes as he slid in to make it 13-1. With seconds left to play Kuseju also got his name on the score sheet as he teed himself up to volley home 14-1.
An independent observer described the match as, “One way traffic as Petchey once more showed what they can do to teams.”.
Petchey footballers run riot!
Petchey Academy 9 - 2 Hackney Free
Wednesday 19th March
Petchey Academy brushed aside Hackney Free and Parochial C of E School as they look to maintain an unbeaten run and become the best football school in Hackney. It was naïve defending from Hackney Free that allowed TPA to break the deadlock as an unmarked Darius Bryan found the net as he dispatched a powerful right footed shot in the bottom left hand corner. Moments later the young striker found the same corner again as Petchey went 2-0 up. Despite hitting the cross bar, Hackney Free didn’t threaten the Petchey goal. Oshane Small made it 3-0 in the 25th minute as he received the ball from the right wing, brought it down on his chest before volleying in to the top corner. The triumph wasn’t to stop there as Hasan Asania grabbed the fourth goal before the interval.
After the break Hackney became a bit stronger as they forced a few saves from Petchey keeper Joshua Charles, and within minutes scored from the spot as referee (Lakole) awarded Hackney with a controversial penalty. Darius Bryan replied with a scorching shot from 27 yards which found the net to make the score 5-1 as Bryan claimed his hat-trick. To their credit, the away side did their best to mount a fight back, with the number 9 and 8 both going close.
The score soon changed to 6-1 as an unmarked Hasan Asania ghosted in at the back post to fire home Perry Walsh’s cross from close-range. Kojo Awotwi also got his name on the score sheet when he hit a glorious, curling shot which found the bottom left hand corner after hitting the inside of the post 7-1. The riot didn’t stop there as Hasan Asania also claimed his hat-trick with a neat finish in the right corner of the goal. Hackney fired a late consolation in the 65th minute with a stunning free-kick; however Petchey rubbed further salt in the away side's wounds as the man of the moment Darius Bryan beat two Hackney defenders to fire a vicious shot which the Hackney keeper could only palm into his own net.
Bridge Academy 0 – 1 Petchey Academy
Thursday 6th March
The Petchey Academy Year 7 footballers produced an impressive display to beat a good team from The Bridge Academy. After an explosive start from Petchey, the game was quite tight for the first half as the Bridge goalkeeper was put through his paces. Joshua Charles the Petchey keeper had quite an easy start between the sticks until the second half when he was forced in pulling off a string of saves to deny Bridge.
It wasn’t until the 72nd minute when the deadlock was broken as captain Soner Ozdemir played a wall pass with Jawaad Jaigirdar who returned the pass for Ozdemir who slotted the ball pass the Bridge keeper and into the bottom left hand corner. Shandon Matthews and Kojo Awotwi were both constant threats while Lawrence Egwuekwe also showed his talent in the second half as Petchey displayed rampant attacks on at the Bridge goal. Despite a late show of attack from Bridge, and the help of the crossbar, both keeper Joshua Charles and centre half Hoang Le kept the defence together to see out the match and keep a clean sheet.

Future Chef 2008
Shaquel Grant came a creditable second place when he competed against nine other London schools in the prostigious Future Chef 2008 competition held at Thames Valley University on Friday 8th February.
His main course, 'supreme of salmon poached in red wine with glazed salsify shallots and horseradish mash' brought much admiration from the audience who thought that it could be the winner.
Judges stressed that he had run a "very close second" as his pudding, 'rhubarb syllabub with a coconut tuile' was voted the best in the competition. Shaquel certainly acquitted himself well as he was competing against students in years 10 & 11.
The Head Chef at The Berkeley was so impressed with Shaquel's skill and professionalism that he offered him a work placement at his hotel (as long as he gave away his pudding recipe!).
Shaquel had been taught by Mr Liversidge (Petchey Academy Food Manager) and mentored by John Woodward (Head Chef at the Malmaison) and assisted by one of Mr Liversidge's ex-students, Sang Nguyen, who is currently working for Gordon Ramsey.
Shaquel not only received the prize of a set of chef's knives but a dinner at the soon to be opened Franklin Hotel. Shaquel would, he says, like to go on to be a Chef when he leaves the Petchey Academy. He has time now to develop his skill as The Academy has a fully equipped catering kitchen and restaurant.
