Sociology at The Petchey Academy

Sociology is the “study of human society.” Sociology students will learn a number of concepts and terms . There are three main areas they will study;
  • Social structures (e.g. the family, education, social stratification, etc.)
  • Social systems (e.g. culture and identity, agents of social control, etc.)
  • Social issues (e.g. the causes of crime, the impact of unemployment, etc.)

In the first year students will be studying:

  • Social class
  • Socialisation
  • Crime and deviance
  • Power and Politics

Sociology event:  Trip to Rio Cinema for all Sociology students to see the film "Skin" which looks at identity and prejudice.
