FABULOUS GCSE RESULTS FOR PETCHEY YEAR 9 AND 10 STUDENTS

Dear Parents,Carers and Students,
On behalf of all our staff, students and governors, I would like to extend a warm welcome to you all. As the new Principal, from September 2010, may I also introduce myself and explain a little about what our academy means to me.
Having taught in East London and lived in Hackney for many years, I was honoured to have been appointed Vice Principal back in April 2006. It was a realisation of my dream to play a leading role in establishing a new academy in Hackney and I was extremely fortunate to be able to do this with David Daniels, Sonia Sinclair, Jo Rainey and our team. I am completely committed to everything we have set up and achieved so far in our four years, so to be appointed Principal in order to continue this work, is a great privilege.
Our academy has enjoyed considerable success under David Daniels leadership and Jack Petchey’s patronage. The pinnacle being this Summer’s GCSE results. All of our Year 10 students took at least one GCSE paper a year early and 80% of them have one A*-C grade already. Many of them have considerably more (see further details below).
Please come to my opening assembly and address
I look forward to greeting all of the students on Monday 6th September and especially our new Year 7s. Over the first two weeks I will be addressing each year group in an assembly. We would very much like parents and carers to join us on the appropriate morning.
Tuesday 7th September -Year 7
Wednesday 8th September -Year 8
Thursday 9th September -Year 9
Friday 10th September -Year 10
Monday 13th September - Year 11
Assemblies start at 9.00am.
Please arrive by 8.50. Students will meet you at Reception and guide you to the auditorium. If at all possible, please do not bring young children or babies with you.
Please note the following early closures
On Wednesday 8th and 15th September the academy will be closing one hour early for students at 3.00pm. From Wednesday 22nd September our Enhanced Programme will begin. Since the students have a free choice for this period, we are unable to organise the Enhanced timetable until we have consulted all of them about what they would like to study.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our staff will be taking part in a training programme during this time.
Yours sincerely
Olivia Cole
Principal
