GPR is an excellent alternative to Critical Thinking, General Studies and the Extended Project, and is very attractive to universities looking for students who can evidence independent, critical thinking. It enthuses learners by offering the opportunity
for open debate and research on their own topic.
Year 12 (Global Perspective Research)
In year 12 students complete one essay and presentation on a global issue of their choice (75%) and one exam based on analysing two unseen news articles (25%).
Year 13 (Independent Research Report)
Students are required to write one 5,000 word essay or report on any topic of their choice e.g. students wanting to study medicine can choose to write a medical report and students wanting to study humanities can write an essay. Students will be guided by a teaching mentor who will support them in writing at undergraduate level. In 2017 72% of our Year 13 students secured their place at university with their GPR/IRR grades.
