a revival or renewed interest (Oxford Dictionary)
Making sure our academy inspires and supports all students is something that we take especially seriously.
Our inclusion team is known as the Renaissance Learning Centre. In order for students to excel, it is our responsibility to ensure that all barriers to learning are removed.
Renaissance is led by Ms Alexis and is overseen by Miss Aiken (Assistant Vice Principal). The governor with particular responsibility for inclusion is Dr Marie Stewart. We have a team of over 20 staff working in different roles throughout the academy to support our students and we also work in strong partnership with many external organisations and professionals. We benefit from dedicated and high quality facilities, including our newly built Renaissance Centre which houses much of our specialist work with students.
We are extremely proud of being awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) GOLD in 2013 for outstanding inclusive practice - this award follows a rigorous two day inspection process which took and in-depth look at our inclusion work here at the academy. We were first awarded the IQM in 2010 and are very proud to have our on-going commitment to excellence in inclusion recognised formally for a second time.
One comment from our inclusion report that summarises much of what we are trying to achieve:
It was clear from the outset that the school was very much focused on inclusion and the students, in particular, were at the centre of everything...

The work of Renaissance is shared between specialist teams. Each team has a different focus in removing specific barriers to learning faced by our students.
