The final of the HSBC Mandarin Speaking Competition 2018 took place at the British Museum this week and our students did Petchey proud indeed.
Louis Roberts, Jacob Farley, Olivia McFarlane, Joshua Honeyghan, Harsimran Kaur, and Oliver Hunt shone as they confidently performed their five minute play in fluent Mandarin Chinese and traditional Chinese dress in-front of a panel of Chinese experts and an audience of their peers who had travelled from across the UK to compete.
We were clearly one of the strongest groups in the final due to the positive energy and dedication of the students. The judges highlighted the Petchey students for our particularly creative, energetic and humorous show. The team came fourth which is a fantatsic achievement, especially as they were one of only two non-selective schools in the final 16 from the UK. Well done to everyone involved!
We were awarded a plaque to honour our success at making it into the Grand Final which will be displayed for all to see in The Petchey Academy’s main reception.
