Recent guest speakers
Anthony Impey; founder of the Internet Service ProviderOptimity, visited the academy on Tuesday as part of the Raising Aspirationsprogramme to talk to our Year 10 BTec ICT, GCSE Computing students, and Year 12A-level computing students. He spoke about his own personal journey building acompany which now competes with the likes of BT and TalkTalk, and of thechallenges he overcame to achieve success. Students learned about the variouspathways into technology professions and were inspired by the opportunity tospeak to someone who was so passionate about the industry. He particularlyemphasized the importance of students gaining voluntary experience in thesector, and of developing and evidencing their soft skills; empathy,confidence, team-work and reliability, in order to stand out when applying forpositions.
Dr Mark Richards visited the academy and spoke to many ofour aspiring physics students. He has a PhD in Physics from Imperial CollegeLondon. His research has centred on thespectroscopic study of nitric acid vapour for atmospheric remote sensingretrievals, and he works as a Post Doctoral Researcher within the High EnergyPhysics Group to manage a Technology Transfer program. He has since co-foundeda company specialising in wireless air sensing networks for real-time pollution mapping.

Nick spoke to students about careers in Finance, his journey from grammar school in Yorkshire to working in one of the top funds in the UK and potential paths for students if they were interested in working in the financial industry.
