Sixthformers learn the value of volunteering

On Tuesday 12th December, Y13 Harvard volunteered at the Hackney Caribbean Elderly Organisation. Students got a feel of the day to day tasks at the HCEO.  They started off by joining the exercise club where they were active and supported the elderly where needed.  After exercise club students were able to meet with the elderly 1:1 where they learnt about their past experiences.  The students then went on to serve lunch - a different kind of Family Service! They had a very hands-on approach and were attentive to the individual needs of each person.

The elderly people enjoyed their company and were sad to see them leave. The students really enjoyed themselves and showed a lot of maturity.

Proactive attitude, good communication skills, very helpful.

On Wednesday 13th December, Y13 Berkeley volunteered at St Joseph’s Hospice. The students got to use their more creative skills as they decorated the Christmas grotto for the hospice, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The volunteer coordinator commended them on their creations and invited them back to volunteer again.
