Petchey Boys Play at Arsenal

Last Thursday a group of boys from Years 7-9 were rewarded for their hard-work throughout the year to their school football team with a great opportunity to participate in a Football match at Emirates Stadium. 

The boys played in a match on the emirates pitch against Bridge Academy and won 3-2.

This was an amazing opportunity for all pupils who took part and memories were made on this day.

 

 

Under 15s go through to represent Hackney in the Youth Games

The year 10 Handball team produced an excellent display to win the Hackney playoff tournament for the London Youth games beating all the other teams in the tournament. they will now represent Hackney against all the other districts of London. Good luck lads!

Battle of the Genders

On Friday 14th December the challenge of ‘who is better boys or girls’ took place with the girls taking the victory, winning 9-2.

They were supported by 35 spectators from year 9 who were extremely positive and enthusiastic throughout the match.

Both teams embodied the Petchey Spirit and was a pleasure to umpire friendly competition between the boys and girls.

Crowd control was led by the year 10 Sports Leaders Hanad Ali , Josiah yorke  and David Olaposi, who were professional and mature throughout the match.

Our Year 11 Sports Ambassador Sultan Adekoya was in charge of the year 10 sports leaders and managed the Boys Netball team and took both roles in his stride.

 

Please congratulate both teams in their first Boys v Girls semester challenge, we hope to see you at the next one which will be football.

Over the last month the year 7 and 8 girls athletics team has been representing the school with pride demonstrating amazing individual and team efforts through out the tournament. And with the competition completed the Year 7s have finished 4th and year 8s second.

On the 14th of December, the girls competed in their fourth week of the Arsenal Hub football League.

The girls smashed it with 4 games and 4 wins. They played fantastic and beat last year’s winners Camden.

Under 13’s handle the pressure 

The year 7&8 Handball team participated in the Hackney Championships on Monday. They narrowly lost their first match against Skinners 4-3, to a goal scored in the last minute. With their spirits down, they lost 3-0 to Urswick who went on to win the tournament. However, they restored some pride in the last game by beating City 5-0.

Year 10 carry on their journey in the London Cup

The year 10 Football team won 6-1 in the 3rd round of the London cup against Fulham boys school. The team played excellent football and demonstrated great teamwork to win comfortably.

Year 7s win Bronze

In what can only be described as, the Champions league of the Year 7 Hackney 5aside  world, Petchey were represented by 13 skilful students. Both the Girls and Boys sides did very well but unluckily were beaten in the semi finals.   Petchey finished with wins in the 3rd and 4th play offs to leave the tournament on a high and some medals.

The Trophies stay at Petchey

On the 28th of November 139 students from Hackney and Islington schools came to the Petchey Table tennis tournament .

 

With only 6 students from Petchey competing it look odds on that another school would leave with the trophies. But this was not to be. Petchey were short on numbers but not on quality, with all 6 showing their skills during the event.

 

The eventual winners of the girls and boys tournaments were Billy and Renedi.

It is great to see how table tennis has grown over the years.

On the 22nd of November 6 pupils from Y7 and Y8 took part in the second week of their Arsenal Hub Football League with other schools in Hackney and Islington.

The games are quick. The girls have been working hard in morning training and performed to a high standard.

With four games in one night there were some great results for the girls and they walked away feeling happy with their performance and keen to improve for next week.

Unstoppable 11s through to Youth games final

The year 11 Basketball team produced an excellent display to win the Hackney schools u16 basketball Tournament, defeating Cardinal Pole in the semi final and Hackney New School in the final. They will now go through to represent Hackney in the London youth games.

Girls athletics still chasing hard for 1st place

The 15 girls took part in week 2 of the Sportshall athletics. The week 1 results left the Year 7’s in 3rd place and the Year 8’s in 2nd.

With the events and technique now familiar with them they were all eager to go.

 The girls showed great encouragement to each other during the races. Sonia Koko teaching the Y7 girls the triple jump technique before their event.

All the girls warmed up themselves and showed Petchey in an amazing light. Individual event results were on top form as well.

Netball season starts off with winning fever!

Year 7 and 8 Girls took part in their first netball game of the Hackney league versus Bishop Challenor.

The girls have worked hard in enhanced and morning training and this showed on the court.

The passing, teamwork and determination shone through in both years and I was a very proud teacher.

Girls sprint away from opposition

On Tuesday 13th November the Y7 and 8 Girls competed in Week 1 of the Sportshall Athletics competition. The events entail a run, throw and jump.

The competition was tough with a lot of girls taking part from all schools in Hackney for the first time. However Petchey triumphed with some great individual results.

Every week the girls will accumulate points and only at the end of the 3 weeks will we know where they have placed. A great 1st week for all girls involved.

Jack Petchey East London qualifier Table Tennis Tournament

U19 boys, who had two under-16s in the team, played in the older age group and came 3rd after being knocked out in the semi-final.

Under 13 boys played well at their first ever tournament. Just 1 point away from qualifying from the knock out rounds.

The year 7 and 8 girls shine at Arsenal competition.

On Thursday 8th November we saw the start of the league for the U13 Girls Football team at the Arsenal Hub. The games are quick and fast paced but the Petchey girls excelled at this. Fast feet from Mallak and great saves from Lillyann and Gulenay put Petchey for the win in the first game.

The Petchey girls tried their best to keep the 1-1 score between ursiwck in the second game but urswick got the win. However Petchey came back for the win in the the third game showing great mental strength.

Year 7's are goal machines!

The year 7 boys began their new season with a fantastic 8-0 win against Stepney Green School. The boys dominated from the beginning and played some outstanding passing football. Each player performed admirally, with the standout performers being Jayden Meade, Ayomide Brown and Nnaemeka Chimerizi.

9’s all round

 The Year 9 football team have had an excellent start to their league fixtures. On Monday they played the Skinners Academy. The boys played a confident attacking game which saw them emerge 5-1 winners with Orgito, Jeffrey, Kargbo and Tino (x2) scoring the goals. Tino dominated the midfield all game and was the deserved man of the match.

 

On Wednesday the team were again in action against Bridge Academy. Once again the boys started the game with confidence taking the lead after two minutes with Jake scoring a great goal from outside the area. Despite conceding from a set piece they once again scored and never looked back winning 4-1 with further goals from Orgito (x2) and Tino. Lebron had put his body on the line in both games at centre back and took the man of the match for this fixture.

 

This takes their tally to 9 goals in 2 games. Great work lads!

Year 8 boys rugby 7’s squad: the boys performed very well in hot conditions and represented the academy superbly.

Last week some of our staff played against the Alumni students. It was a hot afternoon and a tough battle but the staff went on to win 3-2.

The Year 7 girls Basketball team went to the Hackney borough tournament, and came 3rd! The girls improved over the games and impressed me massively!!

On Thursday the Year 8 girls went and they came 2nd! A tough performance that was very physically demanding. The girls done Petchey proud and will no doubt come 1st next year if they keep training.

Our students demonstrated impeccable resilience in the heat yesterday, with temperatures as high as 30 degrees for 3 and a half hours!!

Despite their lack of training as a team they came a respectable 5th with 2 wins 2 draws and 2 loses.

Arsenal Tour

24 of our girls were lucky enough to get a tour around the Arsenal Stadium. They were able to take a seat in the executive box, sit in the players places in the changing room and sit in the dug out. The girls had a great time and were complimented on how polite and well behaved they are. Well done girls!

Mascots for England!

Over the half term break Jakeita and Geraldine were lucky enough to walk out as mascots with the England’s Mens Rugby team at Twickenham.

They walked out in front of 80 000 screaming fans. This life changing opportunity is a once in a lifetime experience that the girls thoroughly enjoyed.

The girls have gone from strength to strength with each fixture and training session. They have shown great attitude even when the results didn’t go their way and showed incredible team spirit. This was the best set of fixtures where they worked as a unit to defend.

They worked well as a team and showed some high quality passing, defending and attacking, with other schools and teachers congratulating us on it.

Despite the games being only 12 minutes which does not play the team’s strengths, they put in a considerable performance.

London Youth Games Table Tennis Selection

This week some of our students trialled for Table Tennis to represent Hackney in the London Youth Games. 2 of our students Excelled with Renedi winning overall and Divine coming in at 2nd! Well done girls and good luck!

Year 7 and 8 Athletics

28 pupils from Year 7 and 8 took part in a Hackney Athletics Competition.

It was a great day for the Petchey Academy with lots of the pupils walking away with medals.

The pupils hard work and dedication in Athletics club and during lesson time defiantly shined through.

All of the pupils represented the academy in a brilliant way through their participation and behaviour.

Girls Basketball

The girls basketball team went to Mossbourne Victoria Park this week. They played incredibly well and won the game 21-20. Well done to all of the girls who played!

Girls Handball

6 enthusiastic year 7s embarked on their first Handball tournament.

The only knowledge they have of the game are from their lessons, and have never played together as a team. Despite their lack of experience in handball, our multi-talented students demonstrated resilience and prevailed! Our year 7s were the youngest girls in the competition and played against competent year 10s girls from stoke Newington, Mossbourne and Clapton.

The Year 9 boys were off to a great start at Hackney marshes this week. The boys were 2-2 at one point but they dug deep and grabbed another 3 goals to make the score 5-2. This win means the year 9 boys are league CHAMPIONS!! Well done lads a very well deserved victory!

8 of our students competed in their first handball tournament last week. Despite being the only team to bring Year 8s they performed extremely well up against good opposition. 

 They came 3rd in the tournament, and all of our years 10s were invited to train in preparation for the selection process for the  London Youth Games next year.

The Year 8 boys were on home turf for their fixture last week. They had a great start by going 1-0 up with Jeffrey scoring early on. Then Menniel grabbed a second for the team. It was an end to end game with Urswick grabbing 2 late goals for the game to finish 2-2.

Our Year 10 Boys Basketball team went to Skinners last Tuesday. It was a great game and well played by the team who came out triumphant winning 26-13.

Last week was inter house. Many sports were played but only 1 team could come out as winners. In the year 7 girls Table Tennis Saunders House were the winning house winning most of their games. Well done girls and well played to all!

Last week the year 9 boys met with Stoke Newington. Petchey were dominant from the start. Great work by all and Petchey got a well deserved goal worked from the left wing over to Aaron. The goal gave Petchey an extra boost as they dominated the game. Mardoche was relentless and was running tirelessly for the team. Further goals came later in the game with Mardoche grabbing 2, Penniel, Malachi and Marvin adding to the tally.

The Year 8 boys were on home soil for their fixture on Monday vs Cardinal Pole. It was end to end with both teams dominating with possession. In the end Petchey had to share the points with a 1-1 draw.

Yr 9 Boys football vs Cardinal Pole Thursday 15th March

The year 9 boys were on home turf last Thursday vs Cardinal Pole. They dominated from kick off with a goal being scored within the first minute from Malachi. Aaron dominated on the right flank continuously beating his marker. Penniel was dominant in the centre of the field and Dior was a force to be reckoned with in the defence. Malachi grabbed another goal later in the game with Aaron adding 2 goals to the score sheet with Penniel grabbing the 5th for the team. Sufyan was very rarely troubled and just collected a few loose over the top balls. An incredible team performance by all.

U13 Girls' Rugby

 Y8 girls attended the London Youth Games representing Hackney on Thursday 15th March. It was a wet and cold day but this did not damper the spirts of the girls.
 The girls played well but there was some tough competition from other boroughs in London.
 As the matches went on the girls got into the rhythm and showcased some good techniques and skills.
The girls won 2 matches and drew 1.

Tuesday 21 November 2017

The Year 9, 10 and 11 team played Netball at home against Clapton School. Unfortunately the Year 9 team from Clapton could not field a side, which means Petchey automatically claim the points. The Year 10/11 team game featured some of our Year 9s due to them missing a game. The match was intense for our Petchey side, which was evident in them being down in the first, second and third quarter.  However, they pulled out a fantastic 5 goal quarter to secure the win. Petchey won 13-10! Woman of the Match: Blanche Toualeu- Nitcheu.

Thursday 23 November

Today was the final day of a 3 day marathon of netball at The Petchey Academy. The girls played Clapton, Mossbourne Victoria Park and today the Year 9, 10 and 11 Team played Skinners at home. The game was fast paced, tactical and amazing to watch.  The Year 9s Won 10-7. Woman of the Match: Blanche Toualeu-Nitcheu. The Year 10/11s Won 9-7 Woman of the match: Blanche Toualeu-Nitcheu (normally a Goal Shooter and played out of position as Goal Keeper).

Tuesday 27th September

Mr Hudson’s Year 7s won 5-1 against Skinners. 2 goals for Tino, 2 for Isaiah + Rishi. Man of the match was Tino Quamina. Year 7 captain said "We played really well as a team and fully deserved to win. We hope we can play this well next week in the National Cup".

Boys Football season begins….

The football season is now in full swing with training and matches coming thick and fast. This weekend’s opponents were Bishop Challoner School and the results were as follows:

Year 7 – Lost 3-1 (Scorer – Isaiah Acheampong) Man of the Match – Jake Curtis 
This was the first game they have all played together but showed potential for the season ahead.

Semester 2 Week 3

The Year 9 netballers have won three matches in three days! They have put their heart and soul in to the game they are all so passionate about.

They played a high tempo and strong game against Cardinal Pole at home resulting in  a 9-2 win with our Goal Attack Solange Fyffe and our Captain Jhanelle Wallace both obtaining the accolade of Woman of the Match.

They then played against Mossbourne at home. The game was tense and controversial yet the Petchey team was victorious, winning 7-5. The Women of the Match were Solange Fyffe and Blanche Toualeu-Nitche.

Last night they played against Our Lady’s at home and won 19-2. The Women of the Match were Blanche Toualeu-Nitcheu and Jhanelle Wallace.

The year 7 and 8 team played against Mossbourne at home, and the petchey side struggled to find their feet in a high tempo, challenging game. Unfortunately both teams lost but left knowing how to improve in the future.

The year 7, 8 and 9 Netball team played against Skinner Academy away yesterday, and overcame a range of obstacles such as the Year 9 team having to use Year 8s and slippery courts to name a few!

Despite these issues they played a respectful and  energetic four quarters.

The Petchey Netball team have achieved a massive amount this year, the highlight being the year 7 and 8 teams winning the Hackney League.

These successes has be instrumental in the opportunity to trial for the London Youth Games to represent Hackney.

Last year we had one student selected: Renedi Luyeye(yr10).

Cross Country

Semester 1 Week 5

Petchey’s cross-country team performed brilliantly at the Hackney Championships this week. All of the competitors gave their all around a tough course at Hackney Marshes. The following students finished in the top 10 in Hackney and will go on to represent at regional level. Congratulations to all that ran. – Mr Martins.

Basketball

The Year 10 basketball team participated in a Year 11 basketball tournament for all schools in Hackney and Petchey came 2nd!!! Everyone played fantastically well and gave 100% effort. The players of the match were Tayla Vanriel and Tamia Cowen; both did what they thought was best for the team at any given point. An all-inclusive team, they worked very well together and worked hard to perform exceptionally in each match whilst receiving very helpful tips from coaches. The team tried their best and managed to beat Skinners and Bridge taking us to 2nd overall. It was a great experience and we are very grateful for the opportunity. - Miss King

The Year 8/9s went to the Hackney borough Basketball Tournament yesterday and came second!

We competed against all other schools in Hackney, three schools were basketball academies and the girls played extremely well. They were determined to achieve and conducted themselves in a very mature manner. Players of the tournament - Elsa, Blanche and Solange

Semester 2 Week 2

The boys’ and girls’ teams played in a tournament at Bridge Academy against the schools in the borough. Their high skill level and determination, which was shown in all the games, were testament to all the hard work the academy have been demonstrating in our curriculum and extra-curricular provision.

Petchey Boys played Mossbourne Academy and won 10-5!

Three members of the boys team have been selected for a trial for the London Irish Academy : Kacey Davis-Rees, Mazin Hussein and Terrell Smith

Petchey Girls played a tournament and were victorious across the board:

Our Year 9 & 10 girls’ rugby team are Hackney champions once again! After beating Bridge Academy, Stoke Newington and Skinners Academy, Petchey advance to the London rounds!

Yesterday the girls represented Hackney and took part in the London Youth Games in Barn Elms, where they were competing against 35 boroughs. The U13s just missed out on a medal came 4th out of 17. Congratulations!
