The Petchey Academy achieves national quality award for Careers Education

We are extremely proud to announce that The Petchey Academy has been awarded the national quality award for our careers education, information, advice and guidance provision. The assessor interviewed both students and staff about the careers advice that we provide here at Petchey and was exceedingly impressed. Below is a summary of the report:

"The support and insight of not only Olivia Cole the Principal but of Dorothy Dolton Chair of Governors, has ensured the CEIAG programme, delivery and innovative approach has thrived.

This is supported by a 30K budget annually that support staff and students but has also enabled them to make links with

  • The Hackney Careers Collaborative (HCC) and Jo Margrie- 14-19 HCC Programme manager who ensures electronic updates to all staff about statutory careers guidance/apprenticeships /vacancies locally and much more

  • Head Start Provision of mentors, training, volunteering opportunities and guaranteed aimed at students with EHCP requirements

  • Career Ready 24 students completed internships during summer, with 2 students obtaining part-time work through these. Overall outstanding provision.

  • Bloomberg CPD experience at Bloomberg for staff- Sessions included bespoke leadership sessions around talent identification and tackling underperformance, and sessions for all staff on wellbeing, managing their own talent and public speaking. 

  • Bloomberg for students include year group visits, work experience  /apprenticeships/sponsorship for First Robotics Programme Students compete in international competition in New York each year

  • Links with Clare College Cambridge, Guys Hospital, The Centre of the Cell Queen Mary’s College, The City University of Nursing, Kings College London and University of North East London

 Since Linda Kelly’s visit in March 2017, Tom and Julia more recently have put in place staff training and analysis of their experience, involved the student voice more widely, developed with the head of 6 form and other key staff strategies that support all students with an outstanding emphasis on Partnership with employers such as Bloomberg. KPMG, Deloitte Citi Bank and many more.

Their use of HCC has ensured that they have current LMI/local updates and apprenticeships details This year 72 HCC apprenticeships are available locally for Petchey students to investigate

The 6 Form has changed its name from UG university Gateway in order to demonstrate that they are promoting with equal worth apprenticeships against University places (This is an academy who through inspiring and supporting students have 3 students who have gained Oxbridge places and 20 with Russell group places in recent years) Two Students who have undertaken work experience with Bloomberg have been head hunted to work for them as apprentices. These students are now part of the growing Alumni who willingly come back to Petchey to inspire future students

The Renaissance and welfare staff have developed a strong ethos and strategy with students who need additional support and careers help and have recently assisted a student to gain further work experience/an appropriate course  via a local college and encourage ex students to return after they have left to get careers support."
