In Design & Technology students have the opportunity to use a wide range of materials to design and make products - for example thermoplastics such as acrylic and high impact polystyrene, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, softwoods such as pine and a range of modelling materials.
Students are taught how to use a range of hand tools and computer controlled (CAD/CAM) machines to create high quality finished products. This includes the use of our industry standard lazer cutter. They learn how to work out their ideas with accuracy and precision, taking into account how products will be used, who will use them, how much they cost and their appearance.

Students are encouraged to develop their understanding of designing and making by investigating products and finding out about the work of professional designers, for example the Alessi design group. They also use computer aided design software as well as learning traditional drawing board drafting techniques.
