Enhanced Curriculum
The aim of the enhanced curriculum is to:
• Offer greater opportunity to study subjects outside the National Curriculum
• Cater for the emotional and personal needs of students
• Support the Academy’s delivery of our Health, Care & Medical Sciences specialism
• To introduce personalised learning and an element of choice in the curriculum from Year 7 onwards
Structure
Four hours per week are devoted to the enhanced curriculum. These hours are structured as follows:
Enhanced A
Year 7: Tuesday Period 2 & Thursday Period 5
Year 8: Tuesday Period 1 & Thursday Period 6
During this time students are able to study the following:
• Literacy
• Numeracy
• French
• Italian
• Arabic
• Mandarin Chinese
• Latin
Students studying Literacy/Numeracy are those that have not yet reached Level 4 in English and Maths at Key Stage 2.
Enhanced B
Years 7 to 11: Wednesdays Period 5 & 6
Each member of staff is expected to contribute to the teaching of Enhanced B. Many specialist activities are also covered by sessional staff.
