Overview of the Leisure and Tourism Course at the Academy

 Leisure and Tourism

The Leisure and Tourism course run at the Petchey Academy by Deverell Morris is the OCR National First Award (Level 1).

The course is designed to help learners develop their personal skills in areas such as team working, career planning, communication and problem solving.

At level 1 the course consists of 4 units.

Unit 1 Working as a Team in Leisure and Tourism

Unit 2 Investigating Leisure and Tourism Provision

Unit 3 Introducing Skills and Working in Leisure and Tourism

Unit 4 Investigating Options for Work in Leisure and Tourism

The learners carry out a range of tasks that have been designed to recognise their achievements in a modern, practical way that is relevant to the workplace. The students also have the opportunity to visit some exciting Leisure and Tourism places.

Specification aims

These qualifications specifically aim to:

  • Develop learner's knowledge and understanding of generic, transferable skills that are essential for further education, occupational training or employment, i.e. basic skills, team working and problem solving.
  • Develop learner's knowledge and understanding of the Leisure and Tourism sector and where selected, a chosen specialist pathway within that sector.
  • Develop learner's knowledge, understanding and skills in contexts that are relevant to employment situations.

Progression

It is hoped that by ‘tasting’ the Leisure and Tourism course at Level 1, students will want to progress to higher levels in the same subject at college or University.
