Whilst providing a good all round education this Academy specialises in health, care and medical sciences. This opens up career and life opportunities which have not easily been available to young people in Hackney.
To achieve this, partnerships have been developed with local healthcare providers. This includes major teaching hospitals, the Royal College of Nursing, the National Health Service (NHS), and the local healthcare trust.
More specifically, formal relationship are being drawn up with The University of East London, the Centre of the Cell, Queen Mary College, University of London, The City University School of Nursing and a number of Medical Colleges.
The school has a dedicated Clinical Skills Laboratory developed with guidance from The City University and Guy's Medical School. These partnerships support learning opportunities for students in a broad range of health and medical skills.
At a personal level, the specialism also encourages healthy living through balanced diets, physical activity and good citizenship. In line with our commitment to health and healthy eating, the Academy has a training restaurant (The Mulberry Restaurant). The restaurant allows us to provide vocational training to Level 3 in a wide range of catering and hospitality skills/disciplines.
Next to the Academy is a Child Development Centre. Its presence is a real bonus for Academy students.
Through close partnership students are able to experience new approaches to child focussed support and services for parents and carers.
Arising from this specialist focus, students find that new doors for the future are opened and new horizons for personal achievement are developed.
