Petchey Students Professional Performers at a Charity Concert Event

Dear parents, teachers and students performers,

I would like to thank on behalf of all the Mtwara Volunteering Crew all the support from the people that attended to the fund raising raffle night as well as the ones that did not but contributed towards the fund raising.

The Charity event started at 6pm and finished at 12pm. the audience had the pleasure of having young performers from The Petchey Academy for the first hour for which we all should feel proud of.

Performances included:
5 African drummers playing two of their routines that really amazed the audience

4 violinists from the School's Orchestra accompanied by Mr Barker and Ms March playing 4 pieces fantastically rehearsed

4 flamenco students that danced a Sevillana routine in a real Flamenco Stage

The students enjoyed the experience and so did the audience. Students were invited to have some Tapas and drinks. Students had the opportunity of having a Tapa experience in a real Tapa's place.

Later on in the evening at 9.30pm a professional Flamenco Dancer "Felipe de Algeciras" accompanied by a professional guitarist and a professional singer danced a very moving flamenco routine.
The Raffle took place at 10.30pm and the winning numbers and prizes were as follows:

Number 24 -   A dinner for two worth £60 at Quixote's restaurant in Enfield Chase.

Number 14 - A  Long way round book and a Chill out African Music CD

Number 31 - A Tanzanian guide book and a Chill out African Music CD

Number 27 -  A bottle of champagne

Number 12 - A bottle of wine

 Number 20  - A bottle of wine

Number 9 - A bottle of wine

As a result of the selling of tickets the volunteering project managed to collect  £200 on the night plus £195 from no-show tickets and car boot sale revenue.
All in all the amount converts to 928,250 Tanzanian Shillings which will mean a lot to the people from Mtwara (southern Tanzania) we want to help.

I would like to thank everybody for your help and support.

Thereby thanks a lot to Mr Barker and Ms March for your precious help. In the same manner I would like to thank my students and their parents that showed interest and supported us.
Thanks a lot to Felipe and Kevin co-managers at Nueva Costa Dorada Restaurant for letting us hold the raffle at their venue and especially to Felipe for dancing for us.
Thanks to our other donors, Trelleborg Wheel system, Antoraz, S.L and Faber Maunsell for their donation of Football Kits for Tanzanian underprivileged Children.

I would like to thank our students for their impeccable behaviour, their professional performance and above all for their generosity volunteering to perform during their summer holidays for an International Charity event. Our PETCHEY performers are an example of what makes an excellent active citizen. Thanks to their big-heartedness many Tanzanian students are going to have some happy moments and better learning resources for which we PETCHEY educators and parents should feel proud of.

I will make sure I keep you parents, students and PETCHEY staff posted with all project progress and development as well as with the improvements and educational benefits of the international link in between The Petchey Academy and the Secondary school from Mtwara.

Regards,

Miss. Alonso
