At The Petchey Academy Sixth Form our aim is to develop independent and accomplished learners, well prepared for success in whichever career pathway they decide to follow, and who contribute positively to the community of Dalston, Hackney and beyond.

Sixth Form Bursary Fund Application Form 2020-21

  • We offer a choice of 3 different academic pathways to enable you to select the best fit for you and your future career ambitions.
  • Sixth Form students have FREE access to our Sports Club and exercise classes.
  • We also have a friendly subsidised cafeteria serving great coffee, snacks, sandwiches, salads and a healthy lunch every day.
  • Daily seminar time with an Academic Tutor means that students are extremely well supported by staff that know them personally.

Whilst a large number of existing Y11 students do choose to continue their studies in our Sixth Form, current Y11 students will be invited to meet with members of the sixth form team on results day to confirm their next steps.

We welcome applications from external students who meet our entry criteria.

To apply now please complete our application form and come along on either of the dates below once you receive your results:

  • Thursday 20th August - between 1.30 - 3.30pm 
  • Friday 21st August - between 9am - 11am

Once you have your final GCSE results, provided they meet our entry criteria, please come along to the academy to meet with a member of the team to and discuss your choice of subjects.

Please bring the following with you in order to apply for a place in to our sixth form:

  • Proof of your GCSE results
  • ID (ideally your passport)
  • An academic reference

Following your successful meeting with a member of the sixth form team, we will ask you to sign our Home Academy Agreement and we will also send a copy to your parent or guardian to sign and return in order to confirm your place.

Please note that admission to our sixth form is conditional upon receipt of an academic reference from a member of staff that knows you well AND a signed Home Academy Agreement from your parent or guardian.

Admissions Criteria





3 A Level subjects

8 x 5+ grades including English and Maths, with grade 6 in the subjects you wish to study


Combine 2 A Levels + 1 BTEC (subsidiary) or 2 BTECs + 1 A Level

6 or more 9-5 grades including English and Maths


Extended Diploma BTEC (equivalent to 3 A Levels), including one day a week industry work experience

6 or more 9-5 grades including English and Maths

Sixth Form Networking Evening & interviews for external applicants POSTPONED until further notice

Conditional offers sent out 3rd April Taster Day for all potential students - The day will include fun taster lessons and if you have any final decisions to make about your course choices this is the perfect time to seek further guidance.

20th August

GCSE Results Day

  • Students will collect their calculated grades on this date
  • Students will be expected to be available to attend interviews either on or immediately after results day
  • External students will need to bring proof of your exam results, identification, and a reference
  • If you meet all the entry requirements we will offer you an unconditional place
  • Course choices and extra-curricular/enrichment options will be finalised on the day or shortly afterwards
