Message from the Principal

GRAND OPENING

OF

The Petchey Academy

This highly successful event took place on Wednesday 14th May 2008. The Rt. Hon. Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls, spoke with great enthusiasm about the work of The Petchey Academy to date and suggested that its future would be that of a 'Beacon' school.

Praise for the students and their smart appearance and good manners was prolific with a number of guests taking the trouble to write to the Chair of Governors and me to congratulate the students and staff for what was a most enjoyable day.

A further and fuller report will appear once the various video recordings have been edited after the half-term break.

The Petchey Academy
receives a glowing
Ofsted Report

Lord Adonis, Minister for Schools, commented:

'I am very pleased with the first Ofsted Report for the Petchey Academy in Hackney. I visited the Academy when it opened in temporary accommodation and I am delighted to read about all that has been achieved in these first months. This report  gives further evidence that the City Academy programme is providing life changing opportunities for many young people.'

Andrew Billington,Chair of Governors is also delighted with the report:

‘This first Monitoring Report is very encouraging and I congratulate David Daniels and his team. A great start for our new Academy!!

It compares  very well with first  Monitoring Ofsted  Reports  for other  Academies.

I am particularly pleased that the Inspector ends by saying that there are no identified areas of improvement other than those already known by the senior management team. In other words, the Academy is working well and David and his senior management team know the areas of work that need  attention and fine tuning.’

For the full text of the report see under 'News and Events' followed by selecting 'Recruitment'.

REMINDER: HOLIDAYS TAKEN DURING TERM TIME....

are viewed as being strictly unacceptable. It is a written part of the Academy/ Home contract that such requests should not be made and if taken without agreement,(which is highly unsual)  could result in the offer of a place at the Academy being withdrawn.

The Governing Body does not accept cheaper air fares as a justifiable reason for taking students out of school during term time. Time out of the academy during term time may have a major negative impact on the achievement of individual students.

Please arrange all famility holidays within The Petchey Academy vacation times.
