Our Uniform

The school rename process has involved some visual changes and this has included the introduction of a new school uniform.

Personal presentation is important and we want to make sure that every student develops a sense of pride in how they present themselves whilst at school so that they are prepared for the world of work beyond school.

To make these changes as smooth and stress-free for parents/carers and students as possible, we have decided the following:

  • Only the new intake of year 7 students will be required to wear the full new school uniform from September 2024.
  • For current students, existing blazers and other items of uniform with the old logos on can be replaced with the new ones as your child grows out of them.

To help you understand the impact that these changes will have on you and your child, please see the Q and A sections below.

Why has the school decided to change the uniform?

Following the school’s successful move to join the Community Schools Trust, we are no longer affiliated with The Petchey Foundation. Our new school name and re-brand reflect that change and mark the beginning of a new journey for our school as The Excelsior Academy. Our uniform is, therefore, changing to bear the new school name and logo. Our uniform standards and expectations remain unchanged.

What part of the uniform is changing?

The full uniform is changing, including blazer, trousers, skirt, jumper, tie and PE kit.

However, this will take place over a transitionary period of two years. Therefore, students who join us in Year 7 in September 2024 will be expected to wear the full new school uniform.

Current students who will be in Years 8 - 11 in September 2024 can continue to wear the existing uniform and replace the old uniform with new uniform as they grow out of it. It is expected that all students will be wearing the new uniform after a period of two years.

Where do I buy school uniforms?

Existing Uniform items can still be purchased at Price and Buckland as normal at

Price and Buckland  - Petchey Academy uniform

We will publish the new uniform price list when it is available.

How is the school ensuring that uniforms are affordable?

Our goal is to gradually phase out the current uniform over the next two years, allowing parents/carers a longer period of time to purchase new uniform items so that it doesn't all have to be purchased in one go.
